AbunDANCE of Styles - Sujatha Mahendra

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

"You never know what you can do until you try." Exploring the wide range of dance styles and trying something new can be undoubtedly challenging; but for dance lovers like us, as long as it's dance, it's always a part of our comfort zone. On various occasions, our academy has attempted to perform a variety of different forms stepping out of our daily routine of Kuchipudi. Intrigued to try new things as we were, we hope to have justified these styles as beautiful as they are. In August 2017, we tried a culmination of Indian classical dances- Bharatnatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kathakali, Kathak, and Odissi at the FOGSI FIGO International Congress on Clinical Challenges in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Telangana Formation Day at Shilparamam and 'unity in diversity' events have always been our time and space in attempting to bring out the local folk souls of ours. We have tried some of the most beautiful folk forms of India like Bihu, Lavni, Garba, Bhangra, and a plethora of Telugu folk dances which we wholeheartedly enjoy. All these experiences have shaped us to be better dancers and one should never hold back from trying something new as every move is something to learn from. Keeping in mind the theme of this year, according to us, the purpose of dance is to express our emotions and enjoy ourselves which we have totally done by expanding our thoughts into the world of Indian arts. Life is short, live it dancing. We wish you all a very very Happy International Dance day.
